Companies should be run by designers
innatefunction: That was an attempt at an attention grabbing subject line. Did it work? Jokes aside, I am starting to truly believe in this statement. Here is why; No one assesses problems better than designers, their innate creative characteristic allows them to look at problems in different lights whereas most are quick to choose a solution. Designers specialize in empathy, they separate...

Why I'm Supporting Barack Obama →
As you know, I rarely write about politics… I’ve been undecided for months. I’ve heard John Edwards speak and liked his populist message. But over the past few weeks I’ve gravitated toward Barack Obama. For some it’s a no brainer. But I wanted to make sure that the candidate that gets my vote is really going to change things. I don’t want even a hint of...

I’m seriously considering moving this blog to tumblr. The whole thing. I’ve thought about this before, but now I think it might be time. Reasons: 1. tumblr kicks ass 2. tumblr is free 3. tumblr is free. My only hesitation is that my archive will go away. Tumblr has no way of importing a blog archive. I’ll likely lose quite a bit of traffic as much of my visits come from search....

I’ve been having really whacky dreams lately. Very vivid, very odd, sometimes very disturbing. Here are the basic themes: Israel/Palestine, old friends, friends and people I have known that have passed away, being chased (like an action hero), out of control frustration, travel, music, communal living, etc. This got me thinking that I should bring back “international dream day”...
Breaking Bad →
I watched the pilot episode of Breaking Bad tonight. It’s on AMC staring Bryan Cranston of Malcolm in the Middle and Seinfeld (“anti-dentite”). He plays a 50 year old bland and haggard chemistry teacher who has never done anything wrong or taken a risk. He learns that he has inoperable lung cancer and decides to cook meth. He “Breaks Bad”. Crystal meth is a scourge...

It is what it is. You know I was thinking that I’d like to have an automatic record review generator. You could just plug in some words like the name of the band, album, location of band, some basic descriptors (noisy, boisterous, outrageous, melancholy, intricate, etc), and style of music, then have it spit out the review. Everything seems to be so...
The Only Reason Why I Hate The Kindle... →
The only reason why I hate the Kindle is because of their merciless promotion of the thing on the amazon home page. That’s it. I have no real interest in the product. Amazon should know this, so it should not bother to expose me to their prominent marketing. Here is what I see every time I go to Amazon:
This is the actual promotion. They use text in the graphic. The word...

This pretty much sums up what I’m feeling. I don’t use a feed reader. I find that it’s too easy to get overwhelmed. Too much data. Too many distractions. I’ve been working on setting up the next Search SIG with Dave McClure and noticed that he’s been out of pocket. He had not been answering emails. I decided to check his blog to make sure he was still alive....

5bullets: Something, Anything →
I need to write something. I’ve been staring at that Kindle post for too long. I really hate that thing. Amazon is overdoing the merchandising and promotion of it. Cheap piece of plastic. I don’t know why anyone would want one. I’ve heard that people have actually bought them. Fools. Grrr! Damn you Kindle! Here are my 5bullets:

Dear Amazon, I’m sick of the Kindle. I can’t stand going to your home page and seeing that dreadful devise constantly being promoted to me. I thought you were about collaborative filtering and personalization. If so, then why do I have to see that white monstrosity staring back at me every time I visit your site. I do not want this Kindle. I see no reason for it. Go away Kindle!...
